LXP’s Student Program is Officially Open!
This past week we’ve had the privilege of joining the LXP staff in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa for the opening week of the 2013 LXP Student Program. We drove from Butha-Buthe to JBay last Sunday, April 28th. We came with one of our youth leaders from Lesotho, Lehlohonolo Mokoatleng, and he is staying here for the year as an LXP student. It’s been so fun to reconnect with friends, meet the new students, and be part of the orientation events and activities of this first week of the program!
Some of the highlights included Monday night’s “Opening” ceremony that officially welcomed the new students.
On Wednesday and Thursday the students experienced their first “Expect the Unexpected” adventure. We woke them up at 4am, blindfolded them, and dropped them off at the beach about 40km’s from JBay! They hiked half way home, then slept under the open sky at a beach-side campground. The following morning, they finished walking back to Jeffreys Bay. However, instead of going home to rest like they anticipated, they immediately began a scavenger hunt in teams that took them until evening to finish. It was a long two days of adventure, being challenged, growing as team and as individuals. On Friday we debriefed the whole experience and got to hear and share how everyone felt during the activities and what God was teaching them. It’s always special to hear how God speaks to each one of us in a unique way, based on our strengths and weaknesses. We are thankful we got to be here in JBay with the team for this formative time!
In addition to our time with the LXP team, we had the opportunity to catch up with many friends in other ministries and occupations in JBay. We appreciate this twice-yearly trip we get to take, and we look forward to being here again for graduations in November.
