LXP Worship Team: Overnight Retreat
“A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” John 4:23
One of the foundation stones of life with Christ is worship. Praising the Father through music and song has been a core value of LXP Lesotho since its inception in 2009; the very first LXP gathering in Nkoeng Village was a group of children singing and dancing to guitar music, and praying to God the Father. The Lord has grown this component of LXP’s ministry through the Worship Team that was formed at the end of 2012.
Over the past two and a half years, the Worship Team has met weekly to sing, play instruments, learn about music and worship, and bring glory to God. They lead worship at the Saturday Program, LXP’s bi-annual camps, and during special events like Worship Concerts, the annual Christmas Party, and Talent Shows. They started out with their voices, an acoustic guitar, and metal bucket with an inner tube stretched over it for a drum. As they have grown, so has their equipment. The Lord has provided a practice room with electricity, a sound system, guitar plug in, electric drums played on an iPad, and small keyboard.
Last week their training was taken to a new level at their first ever Worship Team Retreat. Twelve of the singers and musicians gathered at the LXP House for a night of practical teaching, spiritual input, and, of course, musical worship.
From 6:30 pm to 2:30 am the team learned through sessions and activities about the importance of unity, the truth that we are called to worship God in all that we do throughout our lives not just when the microphone is on and the stage is set, how to use and care for the sound equipment, and practical music training. They wrapped up the evening with a time of praise and worship and watching music videos of other groups and artists for inspiration and skill development. Since it is winter, there were plenty of tea breaks and dance parties mixed in to keep warm!
The lessons learned at the retreat are things that the team is taught bit by bit at their regular practices and during camps, but this extended time together was a great boost to team unity and focused learning. One of the young ladies who sings alto in the Worship Team shared that the retreat helped her understand the importance of unity in a team, especially when leading worship in front of a group. She believes there will be positive change in the team in the areas of teamwork and focus because of what they learned at the retreat. “We know things we didn’t know before and it will help us to be better worshipers and worship leaders as we remember that we sing for God, not for anyone else.”
Please pray with us that the Lord will continue to raise up these young people with a genuine heart for worship so they may bring him glory through music, song, and their lifestyle. We would also love to see others come to Lesotho and invest their passions and skills in the Worship Team! If you have a passion for worship and music and are interested in sharing your gifting with the LXP Worship Team, please contact us about the opportunity to come and do a camp or workshop with our singers, musicians, and sound operators. Also, if you would like to help meet the need of purchasing a drum set or full size keyboard, please go to our Donate Page and find out how to give!
